While I am more likely to get my caffeine intake through coffee and tea, I do occasionally indulge in an energy drink. In the past, I had the tendency to grab a Monster or Red Bull, but recently, I have been drinking Alani Nu. To be fair, I don’t really have a choice in the matter, since it’s my sister’s favorite energy drink and we tend to have extras. This is how I feel about three popular Alani Nu flavors, which are sold in bulk.
Disclaimer: Alani Nu is a sugar-free energy drink with a long list of unique and interesting flavors. While I do love trying unique and interesting flavors, I hold a violent hatred for the taste of sugar-free sweeteners. Like, bad. I hate the chemical taste and the icky coating it leaves in my mouth. It is rage inducing.
Orange Kiss 6/10
This is the flavor that my sister hates the most. As a result, this is the one I end up drinking the most. I actually like orange-flavored things, so this isn’t too bad. It’s not the best, but it’s not the worst either. Just a basic orange-flavored, sugar-free energy drink. What I appreciate more than some of the other flavors is how well-hidden the sugar-free sweetener taste is. I can actually drink it without wanting to rip someone’s head off.
Pink Slush 8.5/10
I actually genuinely like this one. Alani Nu has not once failed me when it comes to slush-flavored drinks and this one is no exception. It’s unique, sweet and tastes like a damn good strawberry creme soda. This was the first Alani Nu I ever tried and my sister didn’t even tell me they were sugar-free until after I had finished it. I didn’t notice the sugar free sweetener taste until afterwards but even then, I still liked it. Unfortunately, this is the flavor that flies out of our fridge the quickest, so I rarely get to drink it.
Cherry Twist 5/10
I am a die-hard cherry limeade lover, so I was very happy to see it in an energy drink flavor. It is crisp and refreshing, and it reminds me of the cherry limeades you can get at Sonic. While I usually love cherry-limeade-flavored things, this is the flavor I can taste the sugar-free sweetener the most. I think that this one would be better if it weren’t sugar-free, but I don’t mind powering through the nasty chemical after taste and the icky mouth coating every once in a while when I get the cherry limeade craving.
