Kimberly Miller has been hired to be the school’s new athletic director. Miller is replacing former athletic director Bryan Rooks as he transitions to his new role in the athletic department as Senior Director of Athletic Giving.
Miller joins Colorado Mesa University (CMU) after having spent the last year and a half at Augustana University in South Dakota. There, she served as the deputy athletic director, Director of Compliance and senior woman administrator.
Miller now takes charge of a department that was ranked ninth in the 2021-2022 DII Learfield Cup Standings, a group that ranks the top athletic departments. Miller will oversee the responsibilities of the entire Department of Athletics.
“This is the way I view the job: make sure that our sports and our student-athletes are getting what they need to be successful… [whether] it’s our fields, strength and conditioning or athletic training, we have all of the pieces to be successful. I think we can do some great things here,” Miller said.
Miller looks to build upon past efforts of her predecessors. The department has achieved 21 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships over the last four seasons.
“Everybody has done a great job being in this leadership role. They have all moved this department forward in some way, shape or fashion. I just want to move the needle from what they did,” Miller said.
