Are you a social butterfly that finds joy from networking and meeting new people or a quiet writer that struggles in any type of social situation? If you are, the mass communications major might be right up your alley.
If you have a deep seated dislike for creating bibliographies that you’ve been swallowing your pride about and making them anyway for years, the mass communications major might also be right up your alley.
In college there are so many options for majors, it is often hard to figure out which one to go with. There are tons of career paths you can go down with any major. I made the wise decision of pursuing the dying art of writing for an audience in a world where people don’t like to read anymore. That is just my ideal career path, challenging but rewarding, however, there are many routes you can take with mass communications. You can work on the PR team for a company, you can work in advertising, you could even go be a cook at Waffle House!
The classes for Mass Comm include a lot of writing and research to prepare you for careers in journalism and public relations. A journalist is one of the most important jobs in the current day and age because they are responsible for keeping the public informed whether the news be good or bad. If you want to be the next great journalist that writes an exposé so damaging that you have the CIA on your doorstep, mass communications might be right up your alley.
As with all majors, you need to do some essential learning classes and basic required classes to graduate. This has been where I’ve faced some of my largest struggles as I had to take a math class (I am very bad at math) that felt like someone was unscrewing my brain and shaking it around then putting it back in my head. College is super time consuming and difficult at times and if you never look at it in a lighter point of view, you might lose your passion.
There is a perfect major for everyone, and I really love writing and the concept of journalism so mass comm was the one for me. If you have been woke since you found YouTube in sixth grade, maybe philosophy is for you, and if you have a golden retriever and a metal Starbucks water bottle, take a look at nursing!
