Cycling team champs
The 2021 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships came to a close and the CMU Cycling team came home with a varsity omnium title, the same honor they received last year. Junior Lauren Lackman notably placed in all four of her individual events. The Mavericks won a near perfect score of 712 over the three day competition in Colorado Springs. They scored a perfect 80 in eight of nine events and a 72 in the ninth. CMU Cycling will continue their season and the cyclocross nationals next month.
Maverick Market
The Maverick Marketplace on Nov. 12 is a chance for students to set up booths to show off their businesses and personal ventures to a wide audience on campus. The event will be in the University Ballroom from 2-6 pm.
Costume Etiquette
Colorado Mesa University is a diverse school that houses many cultures. Student organizations have pushed to stop inappropriate costumes from being worn by informing people of what is appropriate and what is not before costume events. Unfortunately, organizations such as Program Activities Counsel and Cultural Inclusion Council had to reiterate the point after Pub Night on Thursday, Oct. 28. Keep it classy, Mavs.
Criminal Activity
Holiday weekends are prime times for criminal activity in Grand Junction and many of these occurred during the Oct. 29-31 weekend. In the surrounding area, many sexual assaults, violence charges, DUIs and shoplifting reports were seen in the Grand Junction police blotter. CMU students can receive major consequences if caught on or near campus participating in illegal activities. Criminal records are generally permanent and can be viewed by future employers. Campus security should be contacted for any on campus incidents that students wish to report at (970) 248-1336.
Events at CMU
Events at Colorado Mesa University can be viewed on the website calendar or in Presence through MavZone. Clubs on campus meet at least one a month and post those events on Presence as well as their social media accounts. Events that require tickets can be found on the University Tickets app in MavZone and are free to students. With COVID restrictions lifted, events have been happening all around campus and present great opportunities to meet new people or hang out with friends and peers.
