The Colorado Mesa University Outdoor Program (OP) is moving to a new location. More space and accessibility are needed by both the Outdoor Program and the Admissions Office, and the change in location will accommodate the needs of both.
The Outdoor Program is set to move to the old location of the Little Mavs Center, which is located in between Houston Hall and Lucero Hall off North Avenue.
Outdoor Program Director Ryan Dutch hopes to move into the new building by fall of 2019, but no dates on the move-in have officially been set.
The OP increased their stock of rentals and needs room to store the new equipment. The new location of the OP is larger and has more public access. The OP is seeking more public access to generate more revenue from rentals purchased by non-students and hopes to achieve this by being in a more public location.
A classroom will be integrated into the new building as well and will give more space for training sessions and meetings involved in the Outdoor Program.
One problem is that the OP is concerned that the new building is in a less visual spot for the students. That being said, the OP will still hold community events to interact with the school and involve new students.
The Outdoor Program has high hopes for the new location and is very excited to make the transition, according to Dutch, and the program regularly shares their progress on Instagram at cmuoutdoorprogram.
