Ok, I think we all have read numerous opinions about how Yachty isn’t a “real rapper,” that CMU PAC made a horrible decision, and that this event is and will be a failure. I am here speak a different perspective.
First, to those who think Yachty isn’t an established artist please tell me any other mainstream rapper who has featured or been featured by Migos, young thug, Macklemore, Lil Pump, DRAM, Calvin Harris and Kehlani, Chief Keef, 2 Chainz, Quavo and many more that would be willing to perform at a mountain town university for $65,000.
If you think you can do better you either know absolutely nothing about booking an artist, or you are playing yourself! If you do not recognize any of these artists, that is not a shortcoming of PAC, maybe you just aren’t up to speed with current artists.
To those of you hoping to “feel” something from the lyrics, I apologize that this isn’t going to be the place, but you can feel the beat! I personally am trying to think of an artist that we would all just sing along to the lyrics holding hands, but that does not sound like any fun at all, and frankly a pretty weird request for a spring concert.
Singing about “Bugattis, women, and money” is called escapism, and believe it or not people enjoy it, if they didn’t you would see a lot more “conscious rappers” in the spotlight.
The student masses voted for a RAP ARTIST, and we are getting a RAP ARTIST. With the student body the size and diversity of ours it is impossible to please everyone, and honestly, it is beyond disappointing how ungrateful some of you are.
Guess what, I do not like American Authors but you wouldn’t catch me throwing a public fit because I didn’t get MY way. If you haven’t noticed every complaining email comes from individuals who do not even enjoy hip/hop or rap.
Kind of hard listening to such strong opinions from people who genuinely do not even like hip hop to begin with. My advice to you is to expand your horizons, Lil Yachty isn’t one of my favorites by any means, but I just listened to his 2018 album that dropped and it has some fire songs that are going to really get the crowd going.
Finally, Dizzy Wright is opening? I tried to go to a Dizzy concert last summer and tickets were over $150 dollars. If you haven’t heard of Dizzy Wright and call yourself a hip-hop head then again- you are just arguing to argue.
Look at it this way, Grand Junction has country jam every year with multiple top country artists, Mesa Theater consistently books local Colorado bands, as well as EDM music, but they struggle with bringing a mainstream hip-hop artist who is RELEVANT to 2018.
So I say a job well done to PAC.
To those of you too worked up in your feelings to join the rest of us for a badass night, I’m sure you’ll hear all about the fun via social media. I promise that you choose not to attend isn’t going to affect the LARGE number of us who will be having a blast! Keep in mind, you can make stupid arguments about any genre or artist if you try hard enough.
Sincerely,
Student tired of hearing from ungrateful crybabies!
