Say what you want about Grand Junction’s unwillingness to transition to a college town, but you can’t say they don’t have plenty of liquor stores.
Naturally, college students want to get the best value to spend their cash on their favorite beer or hard alcohol to sip on (and do it responsibly of course.) However, with so many options to choose from in this city, it’s tough to narrow down which liquor stores are the best. Never fear, though, I am here to break down what stores give you the best value and the best options.
College liquors
My personal favorite store because they have the coolest feature around. Sure, I don’t mind enjoying a good mix Gin and 7, but with the warm weather already creeping up in GJ, nothing will feel better than a cold beer after a day of classes. The hardest part of picking a beer is always choosing a beer you like enough to at least buy six of them. Sometimes that’s easy, but variety certainly helps.
College Liquors, located near Ale House, gives you the freedom of choice and variety. At the store, you can get a six-pack of your choosing. Want a nice Mexican Lager for tacos? Add a Modelo. Want something darker? A Guinness or Newcastle Brown Ale is available. I love the freedom of choice I get at this store, and the prices aren’t unreasonable.
Fun Junction
Any time you can get a discount as a CMU student you should take it. If you show the folks of Fun Junction Liquor your MavCard, you get 10% off your purchase (excluding sale items). Their options are plentiful as well; it would be a challenge not to find your favorite alcohol there either. Plus, if you can’t find the choice you desire, they’ll order it for you. The options plus the discount means Fun Junction is a great place to go. If only they were a bit closer to campus…
Fisher’s Liquor
Okay, so this one is far from campus and it is not the cheapest option, but the amount of choices they have in there is insane. Unlike some of the other places in town, this store has walls on walls of hard alcohol and a mass amount of brands to choose from. Their wine and beer selection is killer, too.
If I’m being honest this would be the liquor store I go to if I want the fancy stuff. You know, the Christmas parties or end-of-the-year barbecue stuff. It’s a drive, but Fisher’s Liquor is well worth the trip.
Pete’s House of Spirits
I’ll always love this little store. We’ve all been in this situation. You know, the one where you believe you’ve done the perfect job hosting. You cooked all the right food, cleaned your house spotless, but then you forget the beer. If anything, this store deserves its spot on this list due to its proximity to the school. The store is within walking distance, and that’s certainly helped me when I forgot the beer for one of my barbecues. What it lacks in a mass amount of options, it makes up for with convenience.
Andy’s Liquor
This is the first liquor store I ever stepped foot in, and the selections are great. It’s less than a 10-minute drive from campus and you can get whatever your heart desires. Not my favorite store, but certainly one of the best in Grand Junction.
