Rockies Field Trip: The Game

The Colorado Rockies begin their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with Rockies at bat in the bottom of the first. Todd Helton makes a base hit after two outs by Fowler and Herrera. Pitching for the Diamondbacks is Joe Saunders with a 5.90 ERA and is 0-3. The Rockies go quietly in the first inning with Tulowitzki getting out with a broken bat.
With Rockies being first in National League and the Diamondbacks losing seven of their last 11 games, it looks like a

expected win for the Rockies. With De La Rosa, third best pitcher on the team, batting at the bottom of the first, he tries to outplay the opposition by pitching a curveball and fastballs. Justin Upton, who has terrific speed, moves easily into second with a double. Fowler gets back in the field and makes the play after a a deep hit by Stephen Drew.
Carlos Gonzalez hits a deep left fowl ball and gets out at the top of the second. “Cargo” reaches base without a hit. He steals a close second in the second inning followed by a sack fly to third by Young and then a sack fly by “Spilly” to home making the score 1-0 Rockies. Spillbourgh’s gets walked making this the 4th base given up by the Diamondbacks without a hit in the second. Diamondbacks get a double out in the second putting it into the third inning.
The Diamondbacks get a fast start tying the ball game in the third with a home run by Henry Blanco out of the field. This is his first hit of the season, making it an impressive one. De La Rosa is even better on the road than he is at home because his curve ball is even more pronounced, giving the offense a hard time. Despite this, on a deep base hit by Drew, Xavier Nady and Brian Roberts make it to home, putting De La Rosa’s pitching to shame.

Players Prepare for the game

Cargo makes a home run at the top of the fourth traveling up the wall behind the seats. With the Rockies hitting poorly in previous games, the fans are happy to see that they pick up their game by tying up the game in the top of the fifth after no score by the Diamondbacks in the fourth by Fowler making a triple, scored as a double to home. This is a step in the right direction for the Rockies after their disappointing hitting recently.
After two flat innings with no scores from either team, the Diamondback make a come back with a run by Upton deep right out of the field at the bottom of the 8th.
Even though the Rockies hit better during the game than they have in recent games, they lose the first in the series to the Diamondback’s 4-3. With the way the Rockies are hitting and pitching, they will need to work harder and focus stronger to pick up the series.
