Maverick Notes

The men’s soccer team hosted two ranked opponents this weekend. The Mavs battled #17 Regis to a 0-0 draw, but were beaten by #6 Metro State 3-1. Nathan Poirier scored the weekend’s lone goal for the Mavericks. The men play Wednesday against Fort Lewis in Duranago before returning home Sunday to play CSU-Pueblo.

The women’s soccer team played in just one game this weekend, hosting Metro State College. Aleah DeGeneres scored in the 59th minute of the game to give Metro the 1-0 victory. The game went into a 20 minute delay as a Metro player was carted off the field with an apparent head injury. The ladies play Wednesday at Fort Lewis and return home Friday to play Regis.

Four Maverick athletes were honored with the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards. Alexis Skarda (Cross Country), Goalkeeper Alicia Kahler (Women’s soccer), Kent Stavrakas (Men’s swimming), and Antoinette McCormick (Volleyball) all received the award. Mesa State cross country is now ranked 25th in the country after a good performance at the Colorado Invite Oct. 2.

The Student Athlete Association Committee is holding Gatorade Pong Sunday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. inside Brownson Arena. It’s $10 a team to enter the bracket-style contest. The winner gets $100 and crowned “Pong Champion” of Mesa State.
