Editorial: get out of your comfort zone

With over 80 clubs and organizations on campus and each one of them putting on their own events and programs, the opportunities to get involved somewhere is endless. There is always something to do. And on a college campus, such as ours, nothing can be more important to the growth of our school.
Our school depends on the involvement of students and their attendance at events that different organizations put on. This could be anything from the free events by Programming Activities Council, such as a comedian or rock concert to the sporting events and theater shows. The theater shows may cost money, but what is $5 here and there to help support our peers and help other departments thrive?
Just showing up to support different groups on campus not only gives us something to do in our free time, but also shows our peers that we care and we support what they do. A theater performance or dance concert wouldn’t be the same without the audience there to laugh, “oooh” and “aaah” at all the right parts. And a football, baseball or basketball game wouldn’t be the same without the cheering fans booing the other team and roaring in approval of the mighty Mavericks. A show just isn’t a show if it doesn’t have fans.
Not only is the support nice but who can forget about the money? The funds that help these programs run and continue offering these events for students to go to and enjoy are almost as important as the attendance to these events. A simple $5 here and there may not seem like a lot to you, but it means a lot to the organizations that are gaining those funds, because that money adds up to enough to help them to be ale to throw more events for our campus.
School spirit is a major asset to a college, and with this size of school it becomes even more important. So be proud, Mavericks. Get out and get involved not only for events such as Keg-a-thon, but support the arts as well. Support the sports teams and the other clubs no one thinks of, like the Dance Society and the Art Club and even AniMesa. Get out there and explore what Mesa State really has to offer. As spring approaches faster and faster, more clubs will be out and about having events such as barbeques. Get out and see what they have to offer and show them that their fellow Mavericks care about what they do for our campus.
