The Mavericks enter the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) as the No.1 seed and are set to host a quarterfinal match.
After going 13-3 in the regular season, the Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Women’s Soccer team is feeling determined going into the postseason.
“We need to control the things we are capable of controlling, which is basically our focus and our effort. It is good because we do not have to rely on anything else but our own focus and motivation to be successful. So to me that is one of the biggest things I think success is a choice. I think last Friday we realized that a little bit so I think that was a good reminder for us. We control what we need to to be successful,” Head Coach Megan Remec said.
Offensively, freshman forward Lila Dere has been close to unstoppable all season long. She leads the conference in goals (15), shots (92), shots on goals (49) and points with 34.
The Mavericks have worked as a team throughout the season always putting the team before themselves. Redshirt Sophomore midfielder Sophia Beames leads the team in assists and has been a dominate force throughout the regular season.
CMU ended their season with a 2-1 loss against Westminster College in overtime but still claimed the Co-Champions of the regular season with University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
While the Mavericks have shown that they can be dynamic and that they can be adaptive to any situation they are put in, they will need to execute that all throughout RMAC tournament play if they want to move deeper into the postseason.
The Mavericks begin the postseason as they will host the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks in a Quarterfinal game. The game is scheduled for Nov. 7 at noon. For all postseason schedules visit the RMAC website for more information.
