In a case of history repeating itself once again, Anthony Weiner, former New York congressman and mayoral candidate, has been caught sending lewd pictures of himself to women who are not his wife.
The most recent picture is of Weiner lying in bed in his underwear. The picture was brought to light by the New York Post on Aug. 28, containing a revealing photo that also included Weiner’s infant son lying asleep next to him.
The congressman was also caught sending messages or “sexts” to other women, referring to himself as “deceptively strong […] like a mongoose.”
A more pressing issue facing Weiner besides the public backlash he is facing is his marriage. Weiner is married to Huma Abedin, who currently serves as the vice chairwoman of the Hillary Clinton Presidential campaign. The two were married in 2010 in a service officiated by former President Bill Clinton. Abedin, a former white house intern and personal “body woman” to then first lady Hillary Clinton, has said that she is separated from her husband and requests privacy. Abedin has found herself on this side of the former congressman’s antics before, but has for the most part stayed by his side. Now it seems that Abedin has begun to distance herself from her husband.
Abedin is currently still working on the Clinton campaign, which looks to face GOP nominee Donald Trump in the November election. Trump criticized Clinton over the latest Weiner scandal, arguing that Weiner should not have been so close to the Clintons given his relationship to Abedin. Trump was quoted saying, “I only worry for the country in that Hillary Clinton was careless and negligent in allowing Weiner to have such close proximity to highly classified information.”
The Clinton campaign meanwhile is not looking to politicize this issue and has stuck by Abedin’s side through this difficult time.
