The Western Colorado Community Foundation is organizing a community collection for any Lego and K’nex building toys. This collection is called “Building Blocks for STEM.” According to the foundation’s website, they are wanting to raise public awareness about STEM education in public schools. By these donations, the students will have more resources to use during classes like math and “encourage creative building design” the website says.
The MAVcard office at Colorado Mesa University will be one site of collection for these donations.
The University Center operations manager at CMU, Hanna Johnson said, “The box has not been delivered yet, I believe it to be coming at the end of the month.”
The collections will go from Oct. 20-29. Other locations that are taking donations are the downtown Alpine Bank, the downtown central library, the Fruita library, the Math and Science Center and the D51 high schools.
“We are often asked to be a donation location and we accept on a case by case basis,” Johnson said.
The MAVcard office is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Johnson explained that the area is locked up at night which is better than having the location in the more open areas of the University Center.
The MAVcard office is purely for dropping off donations. If students or community would like to learn more about this, the Western Colorado Community Foundation website will answer all questions.
Donating legos and building blocks for younger students will help them learn and use for educational purposes.
