This year, the Writing Center part of the TLC moved locations from Houston Hall to the 3rd floor of Tomlinson Library, in room 305.
At Colorado Mesa University (CMU) students have a wide variety of resources to assist them with their academic struggles, including the Tutorial Learning Center, or TLC. A free service provided to all students, the TLC’s goal is to provide tutors in a variety of fields to assist students in their work, ranging from basic homework to complex, multi-page essays, to test preparation.
“[Tutoring] is nothing to be ashamed of, and you do not have to struggle to get help. We offer a ton of services… to make sure that students are on the right path for success.” said Assistant Director Bryce Grant.
Many students of all disciplines struggle with their work, whether it’s English, Math, or even Foreign Language. Although professors, friends, and even classmates can help, sometimes they cannot explain everything.
While this space is utilized by student tutors to review papers submitted for analysis, it is also considered a quiet space for any student to study in. Grant said that this transition was made to give a more centralized feel to resources available to students.
“We wanted to make [the library] an academic location, in addition to the study space it provides. It is much more accessible to students, and it gives us a lot more resources to offer in comparison to the location in Houston Hall,” Grant said. “It is going to be a great change, and we are very excited to work within the library. We are optimistic indeed.”
The TLC tutors hires students that excel in their specific departments at CMU. The 80 student tutors hired will provide their services to other students in all sorts of majors and fields. Although these students will not do the work for you, they’re there to make sure you succeed in your studies.
