The Men’s team and Women’s team both placed in the top five in Saturday’s Mountaineer/Cowboy Invite.
Freshman Kira MacGill made her collegiate debut and led the Mavericks placing 7th overall. This largely contributed to the team’s eighty-seven points which earned them third place.
MacGill crossed the finish of the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes and 26 seconds in her first meet as a collegiate athlete. Another key runner to the team is senior Lindsay Parsons who finished 18th with a time of 20 minutes and 10 seconds.
Western Colorado University took the honor of first place with a score of 15 points at their home meet.
Shortly after the end of the women’s race, the men’s team lined up at the start. The men’s race differs from the women’s as it is an 8-kilometer course compared to the 5-kilometer course the women race on.
The men’s leader for the Mavericks was junior Tony Torres followed closely by junior Mark Testa. The two finished fifth and sixth respectively contributing to the team score of fifty-one points which grabbed the men’s team second place.
Torres finished the 8-kilometer course with a time of 26 minutes and 38 seconds with Testa running through the finish only a second later.
Senior Jerod Kuhn also played an important role in the Mavericks’ success posting a time of 27 minutes and 20 seconds for 16th place.
