The Mavericks were able to pick up two more wins against Adams State University (ASU) highlighted by a strong offensive showing from senior Caleb Farmer.

Colorado Mesa University (CMU) was able to get a 6-3 win in game one while winning 3-2 in walk off fashion in the second game.

Farmer was able to barrel three home runs for the Mavericks two of them being in the first game. He went 4-6 on the day with three home runs and four RBIs.

Junior Conrad Villafuerte had one RBI in the second game and it came just at the right time. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Villafuerte was able to knock in the winning run from junior Julian Boyd.

In game one, Farmer was able to put two runs on the board for CMU as he hit his first home run of the day to right field in the first inning. His second home run came in the fifth as he looked to extend CMU’s lead in the fifth with a solo home run to right center.

Farmer was not the only Mavericks to hit a home run against the Grizzlies as junior Haydn McGeary and senior Jordan Stubbings both hit solo home runs in the bottom of the third.

The Mavericks were not done yet as senior Chase Hamilton doubled down the left field line to score senior Matthew Turner .

As for the Grizzlies, they were able to score three runs of their own throughout the game. Mike Bathauer scored Jace Wytulka in the second on a single in the second. A couple of doubles in the fourth would add to the Grizzlies total as Chase Dixon was able to double to left scoring Ryan Downs. Then, Cedrick Reynaud was able to score Dixon on a double as well.

Sophomore Kannon Handy got the win as he was called to get the start for game two of the series. Handy went six innings striking out 11 batters and only giving up five hits. Senior Dave Henderson got his first save of the season as he pitched the seventh inning for the Mavericks.

In game two, it was a pitcher dual for a majority of the game as junior Gage Edwards got the start against Cutter Smith for ASU.

Both pitchers settled in right out of the gate as each team only allowed five hits throughout the whole game.

Orlando Romero started the game off by doubling to left field, scoring Reynaud for the Grizzlies. Farmer responded for the Mavericks by hitting his third home run of the day to right center field.

Boyd was able to read Smith well every time he was up at the plate as he hit two doubles off of Smith. Boyd’s first double was able to score senior Spencer Bramwell.

Edwards and senior Ryan Day were able to take control on the mound and get the job done as Day walked away coming out of the bullpen.

The Mavericks and the Grizzlies will meet one more time this weekend at 12 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo.
