The Mavericks dropped their second game in a row

The Mavericks fall 6-16 to the ninth-ranked team in the nation in the second game of their spring break trip.

The Mavericks dropped their second game in a row 6-16 against the ninth-ranked team in the nation, Rollins College (RC).  

The Mavericks had three different players register two goals in the game. Redshirt sophomore attacker Brianna Anderson recorded Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) lone assist of the game. 

CMU’s goaltender’s freshman Shannon Murphy and redshirt senior Lula Mitchell combined for eight saves in the game. The Mavericks held a narrow advantage in the game in the draw control circle as they won 12 of the 23 draws in the game. 

The Tars got out of the gates quickly in the game as they scored eight unanswered goals in the first quarter and kept the Mavericks off the board.

Freshman midfielder Ali Bryant got the Mavericks on the board in the second quarter with 13:17 left in the quarter. RC came back with a goal of their own, but redshirt sophomore midfielder Kiley Davis came back with another goal for CMU.  

The Tars answered with three consecutive goals to end the second quarter and take a 12-2 lead into the halftime break.  

Redshirt sophomore attacker Regan Wentz got the Mavericks off to a fast start in the third quarter scoring less than two and a half minutes into the second half. Davis scored her second goal of the game with 5:47 left in the third quarter off an assist from Anderson to bring the score to 4-13.  

Taylor Kienle lifted the Tars lead back to double-digits, but Wentz and Bryant scored the final two goals of the game for CMU. The Mavericks outscored the Tars four to two in the third quarter. 

RC scored their final two goals of the game in the fourth quarter to lift their lead back up to 10 points as they held the Mavericks off the scoreboard as well.  

The Maverick’s next game is Thursday, March 24 at 5:00 p.m. against Saint Leo University in the final game of their spring break trip.
