The Mavericks, with a solid lead going into the day on both the Women’s and Men’s side of things, continued to have a strong showing on the second day of swim and dive action.
Colorado Mesa University (CMU) brought speed all night but senior Lily Borgenheimer continued to dominate in the pool. In the prelims of the Women’s 400 yard Individual Medley (IM), she set a meet record and then broke her own record in the finals with a time of 4:20.57.
Junior Davy Brown was behind her getting second in the event with a time of 4:30.06.
In the men’s race of the 400 IM, senior Jake Simmons was seconds behind Ronan Lauinger of Colorado School of Mines. CMU’s freshman Jacob Troescher ended the evening in third.
The Orediggers came into Thursday’s events looking for some victories and spots on the podium. Annie Osmun was able to get that done as she edged out senior Logan Anderson in the women’s 100 yard butterfly.
Freshman Dejan Urbanek and Colorado School of Mines’s Charles Burroughs were in a race for first the whole entire time and it was Urbanek who came out on top.
The Mavericks women swept the podium in the 200 yard freestyle as senior Kelsea Wright claimed first over sophomore Katerina Matoskova and junior Lauren White were right behind her. Junior Ruby Bottai was also in the race and earned fifth place.
CMU put up a third place finish in the men’s 200 yard freestyle with Kuba Kiszczak getting third.
The Mavericks finished day two of competition with two first place finishes in the men and women relays.
The 400 yard IM relay team of White, Borgenheimer, Brown and senior Julie Day came in first over Oklahoma Christian University. In a race that was won in .08 seconds the men’s team was also able to pull out the win over Oklahoma Christian University.
The Mavericks hold strong leads going into the third day of competition. Action continues on Feb.11 at 9 a.m. as the prelims for day two get underway. The finals will begin at 5 p.m.
