Colorado Mesa University softball pitcher McKenzie Surface received multiple awards for her pitching performances against Chadron State College this past weekend in Grand Junction, Colo.

Surface received both the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Pitcher of the Week, as well as the Fastpitch News NCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week.

The junior ace delivered her first collegiate no-hitter, as well as tossing 14 strikeouts, against Chadron State on Sunday.  It was the first no-hitter for CMU since March of 2014.  Surface followed her Sunday performance with an eight-strikeout, one-hitter complete game on Monday against the Eagles.

Surface, so far this season, is undefeated with an 8-0 record and has thrown for 58 strikeouts while possessing a 2.50 ERA through her 56 innings pitched. Against Chadron State, she threw for a combined 22 strikeouts and allowed the Eagles to possess only a 0.25 batting average.

This is the second time Surface has been named RMAC Pitcher of the Year: the last time being in the week of Feb. 13 in which Surface went 3-0 in the Dixie State Easton Classic.

Last season, Surface earned RMAC Co-Pitcher of the Year honors and was named the RMAC’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year before the current season initiated.

Surface leads a strong pitching rotation for the third best collegiate softball team in all of NCAA Div.II. The Mavericks are 14-0 after sweeping the four-game series against Dixie State and will return to road play when they travel to play Adam State in another four-game series from March 3-4.

CMU has not lost a softball game against Adams State since March 22, 2015.
