For the third time in her career, McKenzie Surface is being recognized for her hard work away from the pitching circle.

The senior pitcher for the Colorado Mesa University softball team was awarded her third consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Player of the Year. It was announced Wednesday that Surface, along with three other Mavericks, made the RMAC All-Academic Team. CMU had the most selections out of any team in the conference as Hailey Hinson, Kaila Jacobi and Kellie Mrofcza all made the squad.

Surface has been awarded the Player of the Year honors even since she became eligible to win the award. To even make the All-Academic team, a player must have a 3.30 or higher GPA and be in their second year at a RMAC university.

The Colorado Springs native currently resides with a 3.92 GPA. Earlier on in the season, Surface became the winningest pitcher in RMAC history as she currently has 87 career wins and holds a season record of 17-1 going into the final series before the postseason.

Surface has also been awarded as a Google Cloud Academic All-American back in 2018 when she last won RMAC Academic Player of the Year.
