Killian Bailey is a senior mass communications student. Known by his classmates for being outspoken, passionate and kind, Bailey has found his place writing, editing and producing for the mass communication department. Currently the managing editor of Horizon Magazine, Bailey took a few minutes to reflect on some of his experiences here:

Where are you from and how did you get to CMU?

“I’m from the Portland and Southwest Washington area. I visited a few schools in Colorado before I fell in love with Junction and Mesa.”

How has your experience with the mass communication department changed your life?

“I found my home in mass communication. There’s no other major where everyone is exactly my kind of weird. We have such an eclectic mix of students and every single faculty member is excited about not only teaching, but learning and participating and just making cool things happen.”

What is the most exciting/scary aspect of being in your senior year?

“Like, I mean, this s*** is done. I finally get to chill: that’s pretty exciting. But also terrifying, because now I actually have to start putting together a plan for after graduation instead of just talking about it.”

What’s next? Have you considered staying in the area?

“The longer I spend in Junction, the more I come to like the place. A few years ago, I would have said that I would be out of Junction for good in a few years. But I’m starting to realize how neat Junction really is. It’s cool here, guys.”

Who is your hero?

“My heroes are my teachers. And actually, all teachers. It’s a thankless profession, yet teachers are the people shaping our country’s future.”

Who is your biggest inspiration?

“I aspire to be as good as dogs.”

What is currently playing on the top of your playlist

“Nothing in particular. But the “Bleeps and Bloops” Spotify playlist has been getting a lot of play time lately.”
