Colorado Mesa University (CMU) beat Adams State University (ASU) 66-38 as the Mavericks kicked off their second road trip of the season. Senior guard Kylyn Rigsby led CMU in scoring with 16 points and she contributed five rebounds and two steals as well.

The Mavericks defense stood out in the game as they compiled four blocks and seven steals, but they didn’t allow any Grizzlies’ to score in double figures.

The first quarter was evenly fought, but the Mavericks were getting into the paint regularly, taking a 17-11 lead. Junior guard Monica Brooks scored seven points in the first quarter to help CMU get the lead.

The second quarter saw scoring droughts for both teams as it was the lowest-scoring quarter for either team. CMU and ASU both shot 31.3 percent or worse from the floor as the Mavericks took a 30-19 halftime lead.

CMU created separation in the third quarter as they increased their lead to 18 points. Senior forward Savannah Domgaard’s basket halfway through the third quarter increased the Mavericks lead to 13 points.

Domgaard’s basket queued a seven to two-run for CMU, giving them a 46-28 lead going into the final quarter of play.

The Mavericks didn’t take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter. They shot 50 percent from behind the arc and they were six for 13 from the floor in the fourth.

CMU’s shooting allowed them to outscore the Grizzlies 20 to 10 in the final quarter of play, as they won by 28 points.

Senior guard Daniella Turner was the second-leading scorer for CMU, posting 12 points along with five rebounds.

Senior forwards Sierra McNicol and Kelsey Siemons combined for 13 points and 13 rebounds against ASU.

The Maverick’s next matchup will be Dec. 19, at 5:30 p.m. against Colorado State University-Pueblo, in Pueblo, Colo.
