Split Graduation Ceremonies

1145

During the fall 2018 semester, those who were intending to graduate in May 2019 were asked what time they would prefer the second ceremony to be held. After the results of the survey were gathered, the second ceremony was decided to be held at 4 pm.

Certain majors will be graduating on May 18 at 9 am, while the remaining majors will be graduating at 4 pm. This is something that will be affecting all graduates. Some students who had planned to sit together and walk across the stage with friends may not be able to do so. This may have been an upsetting change to some, but if you think about it – if you are graduating in a different ceremony than your friends, you will be able to actually watch them walk across the stage and vice versa. You can also take pictures for the person too!

As a graduate this May, I was personally happy that I would not have to get up so early to get ready. I am also happy that the graduation was broken up because it would make the ceremony not quite as long. I know that some students feel the same as I do, but many others do not.

The major downfall of the afternoon ceremony is that it will be happening during the hottest part of the day. So, fellow afternoon graduates make sure you dress in something cool!

The first ceremony will be at 8:30 AM. All academic departments with the exception of Business, Engineering/CU Engineering, Health Sciences and Kinesiology will be graduating. Those departments just mentioned will be in the 4:00 PM ceremony.

Both ceremonies will be held at Stocker Stadium. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be moved inside.

Congratulations to all graduates in the Class of 2019!
