Shelter in place at GJHS after alleged stabbing

Grand Junction High School (GJHS) entered a Shelter in Place at today after an alleged stabbing took place at the school. The victim has been transported to the hospital and police have a suspect in custody. The Shelter in Place is still in effect while police conduct their investigation.

According to information provided by the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) website, “At approximately 10:11 on Monday morning, a school resource officer at Grand Junction High School responded to a radio call for help on the lawn near the south end of campus. Officers discovered one juvenile male victim with what appeared to be stab wounds.”

According to the GJPD, one female suspect was on scene and taken into custody. The male victim has been transported to the hospital and the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

Catherine Foster, District 51 communications services, said the staff and students are safe and there is no ongoing danger at the high school. The Shelter in Place is a precaution while law enforcement investigates the alleged assault. District 51 anticipates school will release at its normal time.

District 51 reported the parents of both students have been contacted regarding the incident.
