CMU and Sodexo are putting on a one-night event to help students ease their minds before finals week: the Cram Jam.

Students who are tired of studying, or awaiting the end of the semester can join in on Monday, December 13 in the Caf from 9-11 p.m.

“Cram Jam is basically the kickoff for finals week,” Director of Marketing for Sodexo at CMU Katie Miller said. “We’re really excited to have it back. It’s a time for students to relax, relieve their stress and just have a ton of fun.”

The event, which is being brought back from its last 2019 appearance, features games for students to help take their minds off finals, such as giant versions of Jenga and Connect Four. It also features a raffle for all students who come to the Caf, with the winners earning a Nintendo Switch or a mountain bike.

Students who go are provided food, including chocolate chip pancakes and hot chocolate. Punching bags will be provided for those looking for a less relaxed approach to the Cram Jam.

“Bring a friend and just come on down. It’s not a long time. We’re not asking for [students] to spend any money, we want you to come have fun,” Miller said.

The Caf serves roughly 1,000 students in a day during lunch, and are hoping for a similar total throughout the night of the Cram Jam. All CMU students are welcome to the event with their MavCard.

The event follows standard CMU COVID protocols, meaning that masks are encouraged but not required. Various professors and Residence Life workers will be helping staff the event.

“It’s just two hours out of your life to come and punch a punching bag,” Miller said.
