Poopetrator of Mary Rait hall

Recently in the Mary Rait residence hall, there was an unsettling incident that took place in the men’s restroom on the first floor. One of the residents decided it would be okay to intentionally clog the toilet and create an unwelcomed mess in the entire restroom. It is unknown who decided to cause this inconvenience, but many are not pleased with the situation that took place.

“There was water all over the floor and I called facilities who tried to fix things and unclog it, but it didn’t work and eventually there was fecal matter that made its way out of the bathroom and onto the floor, so we had to call a plumber,” first floor Resident Assistant (RA) Clark Massick said.

The plumbers eventually found there were a few cloth rags stuffed into the toilet causing the problem. Meaning the whole building would have to be shut down while the plumbers cleared everything out. Massick felt disappointed and thought by now college kids would’ve been past bathroom humor; he believed the whole situation was childish.

Second floor RA, Brendon Di Rito, stated that he was astonished somebody could actually do something like this.

“We had a meeting with our coordinator with all of the guys on this side to get it out there that this is not right,” Di Rito said. “This is our home, and it’s just gross to think that someone doesn’t care.”

I agree with both of these RAs that this is an immature thing to do, with little respect to fellow students who share this living space. I see it as common sense to not do such a thing; especially with how many people it can impact.

Massick also shared this caused life to be a bit hard for a little while, because boys on the first floor had to use the bathrooms and showers on the second floor which was out of the way for everyone. This caused some tension among students in the hall as well.

“Nobody really came out and said ‘Well, I think so-and-so did this’,” Di Rito said. “but I heard hatred towards the person who did do this.”

This seems to me someone just went out of their way to trouble everyone else for the heck of it. Not only is this undeniably disgusting, it is an unnecessary waste of everyone’s time.

Although the RAs in this building did everything they could to figure out who might have been the culprit, it’s a hard situation considering cameras are not allowed in a bathroom. Di Rito explained that it has been discussed installing more cameras in the hallways in hopes of preventing such a situation to ever happen again.

Hopefully this kind of occurrence will not continue to be an issue, and whoever did have a part in this realizes this type of behavior is extremely unacceptable under any circumstance, especially in college.
