There are many ways to participate in politics on campus.

Political Science Club (PSC) is dedicated to having open and productive discourse from all political views. They often hold discussions that any student is free to join. In the Spring of 2022, meetings will be held in Houston Hall at 4:00 pm and continued updates can be found on their Instagram.

Senior Political Science major and PSC President Terra Head stated that each person has their own opinions and those are valuable to the conversations the club has.

“This club is important to get those hard conversations started and show others that communication is key and we can still associate even if we have different opinions. Just because someone is a Democrat or Republican doesn’t mean that their opinion is less than yours,” Head said.

PSC has hosted watch parties for political debates, held discussion forums on Congressional matters, handed out pamphlets on Constitution Day, and helped promote voting on campus. The club is open to any major and more information can be found on the Presence app in MavZone.

“People can actively participate in this club by attending our weekly meetings and joining into the conversations that we have as well as attending events hosted by PSC to show their support. They can reach out to any of the elected officers with questions about joining or participating in the club,” Head said.

Turning Point USA is a right wing national organization that also has a club at Colorado Mesa University. Junior Business major David Proctor is the President of the club.

“Turning Point USA at CMU’s mission is to identify, educate, train and organize student to promote the principles of freedom, free markets and limited government,” Proctor said.

There is no current left wing organization on campus, but similar clubs and organizations include Associated Student Government, Sociology Club and the Criminal Justice Association. Students interested in starting any clubs can talk to the Club Advisory Board by emailing them at CAB@coloradomesa.edu
