Colorado School of Mines (CSM) had three scorers with 15 or more points as they beat the Mavericks by 11.

In Colorado Mesa University’s (CMU) second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) matchup of the season, they shot 47.4 percent from the field and only 65.2 percent from the free-throw line as they five-game winning streak came to a halt.

The Mavericks were led by Georgie Dancer with 21 points in 36 minutes against the Orediggers. CSM’s Mason Baker led all scorers with 28 points as he went 8-14 from the field to go along with six rebounds.

The first ten minutes of the first half was fought hard by both teams, and the Mavericks took their only lead with 10:35 left in the first. However, the Mavericks lead was short-lived as the Orediggers took the lead back with 8:49 left on the clock behind a Baker three. CSM kept their foot on the pedal as they led by seven points going into halftime.

CMU tried to get back into the game, but the Orediggers lead was never cut below five points as Baker kept the pressure on the Mavericks guards to execute at a high level. Dancer had 11 points in the second half as he was trying to get the Mavericks back to even with CSM, but unfortunately, the Orediggers shot 93.3 percent from the charity stripe to get the big lead late in the game to win 76-87.

The Mavericks were outrebounded by 12 on the defensive glass, as they failed to get more second-chance opportunities to get back into the game.

CMU’s next game will be Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. against MSU Denver in Brownson Arena to start their final homestand of 2019.
