Natasha Kostovski is a sophomore majoring in Outdoor Recreational Industry Studies at Colorado Mesa University. She defines herself as a liberal and focuses on environmental rights.

Kostovski has been to Women’s Marches, Pride Parades and protests against gun violence. She would have liked to be a part of the Black Lives Matter movement, but was unable to because of COVID restrictions. She did, however, participate in a lot of online awareness.

“The gun violence [march] occurred in 2019 when I was a senior in high school, it blocked the Dan Ryan Expressway. This occurred when there was a shooting almost every month during the school year. It was big enough that I didn’t have to stand in the middle of the highway, but it felt significant to be there. The Women’s March was nice, a lot of people were there too. I do not believe women’s voices should be silenced,” Kostovski said.

Kostovski has stated that being liberal in 2020 is just as difficult as any other political orientation, people will disagree constantly. She has gotten over the fear of judgement and has spoken out about many issues dear to her heart.

“In this upcoming election I am going to be voting democratic because I believe you need to stick with your party. Right now, there’s been a thing that’s trending called ‘Help Save Our Children’ and it’s to help find the children who have been lost while in ICE custody. They disappear without a trace,” Kostovski said.

The hashtag ‘Save Our Children’ is also being used to shed light on big pedophile rings that occur in high society. Focusing on the innocence of children and wanting them to stay safe is a big point for Kostovski. She also feels very strongly about the environment.

“Our natural resources are depleting and climate change is affecting our natural resources. That’s also why I’m liberal. Biden runs a pretty big campaign on environmental issues, which makes it easy to stand behind him in this election,” Kostovski said.

According to Kostovski, liberalism is focused on human rights, environmental rights and other moral issues that plague our country. Many protests have been occurring in regards to immigration, gun violence, police brutality and so much more. While COVID has affected some political movements, Kostovski and many others are planning on getting back out there as soon as possible.
