On Campus Job

Over the last four years I have been blessed with the job opportunities I have had. My freshman year of college I started an on-campus job with the Colorado Mesa University athletic department. I still work with the department as well as the office of student success. One major benefit of having on-campus jobs is that they have allowed me to focus on my academics.

As a college student, it is very hard to have a set schedule. As sometimes unexpected homework assignments come up, among other things. Having an on-campus job has given me the opportunity of flexibility during school.  Like I mentioned before, it allowed me to focus on my academics, which has been a blessing.

I have also been able to develop relationships with peers and faculty members. Having the opportunity to develop these relationships has been beneficial for me throughout my college career, and these relationships will also be advantageous in the future.

I love my on-campus job, but there is one downside to them. I can only work during the week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Although, for the most part, that seems to not be a problem. However, sometimes I cannot get enough hours.

Sometimes it can be hard, but if I ever need a day off for any reason my bosses are very understanding. Whenever I am sick I know my bosses will be understanding, and, for the most part, it won’t be a big deal if I skip a day.

The last but most important thing about my on-campus jobs are my bosses; they are amazing human beings. I am so grateful to have their support as their employee and a student. They help me all the time and understand when life gets in the way. Over the course of my working experience I have had my fair share of bosses, but I’ve never had bosses as amazing as the ones here. Granted they might be a little more understanding than most because they regularly work with students, but regardless, they are wonderful people. Their doors are always open to me, and any of the other employees.

I might not get all the hours I need/want every week, but working on campus has helped me focus more on my academics, develop lifelong relationships, and given me the opportunity to get involved on campus. I love my job, and I would not trade it for any other occupation right now.
