The newest addition to Colorado Mesa University, the engineering building, needs a name. Eventually, donors will be secured and the building will receive a permanent name. Until then, students, faculty and staff were invited to participate in a contest to provide an interim name for the new facility. The contest has now entered the voting phase.

CMU opened the naming contest with name generation. The first phase ran from Sept. 22-29. During that time, students, faculty and staff submitted name suggestions with the direction that names should have a local theme.

The second phase occurred Oct. 2 and involved narrowing submissions to a group of finalists. A small group of representatives from ASG, The Criterion, President’s Office, Academic Affairs and Marketing and Communications selected 14 names to be voted upon.

The final phase of the competition involves voting on the finalists. Voting runs Oct. 4-8 and is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, advisory committee members and donors.

When polling closes, the two most popular names will be announced as winners, and the individuals who provided those names will be contacted with the opportunity to win a free iiPad

To vote on the finalists, go to http://coloradomesa.edu/name-that-building and submit a vote for one of the 14 names.
