The annual Men in Heels race took place Sept. 13 at the year’s final downtown Farmer’s Market. Men in Heels is an event that helps support the Latimer House, a shelter for victims of domestic violence. 27 teams showed up at the event, 14 of which were attending for the first time.

“You helped raise over $32,000 for Hilltop’s Latimer House and Domestic Violence Services. Your support means women, men and children affected by domestic violence will continue to receive emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy and other vital services as they move from crisis to confidence,” Michael Green of Hilltop Community Resources said.

This year was the first year for any team from Colorado Mesa University to take part in Men in Heels. The Criterion team raised slightly more than $2,300 for the cause, $2,000 of which came from student donations and $300 of which came from CMU’s trustees.

Editor in Chief Chris DeLeon led the Criterion team. The other runners were News Editor Lucas Vader, Contributing Photographer Jordan DeLeon, Assistant Sports Editor Josue Perez and Associated Student Government President Beau Flores.

The Criterion raced in heat five of the event. They led the race against the Coldwell Banker team until the final runners of each team began their portion of the relay race. Flores was overcome in the final stretch and The Criterion lost.
