The start of seniors weekend was a success for Colorado Mesa University’s Men Lacrosse team as the Mavericks claimed at least a share in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular-season title. CMU took care of business against Adams State University (ASU) on Friday, dominating the Grizzlies with a score of 14-4.

The game started out rather slow, but junior Jayden Campbell scored the first goal of the night with 5:47 remaining in the first. That was Campbell’s 13th goal of the season. Goal number two came via Scott Foster as the redshirt junior gave the Mavericks a lead of 2-0 to head into the second quarter. The Mavericks scored the next four goals to ultimately get the 6-0 lead at the beginning of the third quarter.

ASU was able to score two goals in the third quarter, but Mavericks still kept the high lead throughout the game, making the ASU Grizzlies defense tired. CMU was able to score the next nine goals making the scoreboard read 14-3 towards the end of the fourth quarter.

CMU outshot ASU 60-27 and players such as Michael Marino were dominating faceoffs all night long, helping the Mavericks win their share in the conference title.

The rain did show to play somewhat of a factor in the turnover category on Friday night. The wet and slippery conditions led to 53 turnovers for the Mavericks and 30 for the Grizzlies.

Calen Ketcham and Scott Foster both got hat tricks on Friday as both scored three goals each and foster was able to throw in an assist as well.

Reece Callies had the most combined points for the Mavericks as Callies recorded three assists along with his two goals to give him a total of five points on the night.

Remi Reeves played most of the game at goalie and saved eight goals and allowed only two to get past him.

CMU, as for now, share a stake on the RMAC regular-season title but can make their claim for sole possession of the championship when they take on CSU-Pueblo on Apr. 22 at 1 p.m.
