The Mavericks went into double overtime early on Friday to get the 4-1 win over Colorado Christian University to open up conference play.

Senior midfielder Ryanne Parker found the back of the net twice in the victory and lead the Mavericks to their fourth win of the season and their first win within the RMAC. Both of Parker’s goals came late into the game with the second coming in double overtime.

Parker has been an asset to the Maverick team her whole collegiate career and now has two goals to start her senior season. In 2018, she led the team with four goals. This year, Parker has nine shots with seven of those shots on goal. Over her time at CMU Parker has nine goals and 24 points.

“Ryanne is a massive part of our success this year. She is one of our two captains. She is doing an awesome job leading this team.” Head Coach Dani Thurman said. “She’s a great example of what we expect from the girls in every way-on and off the field. She has been working so hard day to day and she was rewarded with her two goals today not only for herself but for her teammates as well.”

It took 81 minutes for either team to score into this on Friday. But it was the Mavericks that were able to get on the board first. Parker recorded her first goal assisted by fellow senior midfielder Madison Rasimas.

The Cougars were quick to respond to the goal by Parker when a corner kick by Adrianna Todd tied the game at a goal apiece. When the game went into overtime the Mavericks and the Cougars returned to a stalemate to force the second overtime period.

“Our defense was super important today. Christian is a physical team that likes to play long balls so we had to maintain our shape and keep our composure in those situations.” Thurman said.

Parker took the soccer ball to the net again to end this one and bring home the win for the Mavericks in the 106th minute of this game.

“I think today’s win was massive going into Sunday’s match. Going into our 2nd game of RMAC 4-1 is awesome and our teams chemistry and confidence is rising to take on Mines who we are tied with for points right now In RMAC play.” Thurman said.

CMU will head to Golden on Sunday where they play a very tough opponent in Colorado School of Mines.
