Mavericks find their pace in the championships

Freshman Kira MacGill had the highest placing of any Mavericks regardless of gender as she placed 16 earning herself a spot at the Division Ⅱ Cross Country Invitational.

The Colorado Mesa University (CMU) Women’s and Men’s Cross Country teams had strong team finishes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships.

The men’s race was first Saturday morning in Colorado Springs, Colo. The men’s team finished in fifth place overall, earning them a chance to compete at the Division Ⅱ Cross Country Invitation on Nov. 14.

The Mavericks had two runners place in the top 20 individually. Junior Tony Torres completed the race with a time of 25:20.9, earning himself an 18 place finish.

Right behind Torres was junior Mark Testa with a time of 25:29.7. Testa would finish in 19 place.

Junior Jerod Kuhn finished in 21 place with a time of 25:30.9.

The women’s team finished tenth with a time of 2:00:23.

Freshman Kira MacGill finished in 16 place for the Mavericks but was also the first freshman overall to complete the course. She finished with a time of 22:34.

MacGill earned RMAC freshman of the year and a place on the Second-Team All-Conference. She also secured a trip to the Division Ⅱ Cross Country Invitational.

The next Maverick to finish would be junior Lindsay Parson. The junior finished in 40 place with a time of 23:25. Junior Kenzie Mente finished in 62 place with a time of 24:23.1.

The RMAC awarded the runners with the fastest times to their first and second teams. For the men, Torres, Testa and Kuhn all finished on the Second-Team All-Conference.

The Division Ⅱ Cross Country national invitation will be held in Lubbock, TX on Nov. 14 at 8:30 a.m.
