The Mavericks fall to Fort Lewis College (FLC) 2-1 as they continue conference play.

Colorado Mesa University (CMU) lost the close battle to FLC in their first game back at home since Sept. 3.

The game was close as there was equal amount of possession going on early between the both teams. CMU capitalized on a penalty kick 17 minutes into the game by redshirt senior midfielder  Gabriel Peres as he was able to score off the kick.

A physical game by both teams saw lots of fouls that set the game up to be fast paced.

FLC tied the game up in the 36 minute as Matt Baldridge scored his second goal of the season. He found a pass from Andres Hernandez and Maxilian Meier that was able to get past CMU’s goalkeeper redshirt junior Connor Durant.

Even though the Mavericks took eight shots in the second half of the game they could not get back in front of the Skyhawks to take the lead. The two shots FLC took in the second half was enough for just one of them to get into the net and take the lead.

Gabriel Legendre kicked the winning goal of the night for his team as he found an open pass from Georgi Stoyanov and Ciaran Feeny.

The Mavericks took 18 shots in total Friday night with nine of them being shots on the goal. FLC was only able to take five shots on the goal but just was more successful around a very tough CMU defense.

Durant, while giving up two goals on the night, saved three balls from hitting the back of the net.

The Mavericks will go back on the road next weekend as they head to Pueblo, Colo. to take on Colorado State University-Pueblo. The game will take place on Oct.1 at 4 p.m.
