Mavericks dominate on the road

The Mavericks travelled to Wichita Falls,Texas to continue their non-conference schedule and continued to dominate on the court. 

After starting their season going 2-2 in the Oredigger classic last weekend, Colorado Mesa University (CMU) women’s volleyball went 3-0 during the MSU Texas Hampton INN-vitational. 

The weekend started off as the Mavericks went a perfect 3-0 against Midwestern State University-Texas (MSUT) . 

Freshman outside hitter Sydney Leffler continued her solid collegiate start as she recorded 11 more kills against MSUT. 

CMU took the first three sets all by a score of 25-17. As a team they recorded 39 kills to MSUT’s 31. The Maverick defense was in full force and came strong out of the gate as they had ten blocks during the game. Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Savannah Spitzer led the team with four. 

Throughout all three sets, CMU only had eight errors.

The Mavericks had to fight against Arkansas Tech University but prevailed and came out on top in a 3-1 game. The offense yet again was in the zone as they recorded 63 kills in the four set game. 

Leffler and redshirt junior middle blocker Tye Wedhorn had 14 kills a piece while redshirt junior outside hitter Holly Schmidt had 12. 

Redshirt freshman setter Sabrina VanDeList helped her team out by having 40 assists throughout the game. She also helped out on defense by having ten digs. 

CMU had to work their way back to victory after they lost the first set to Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU). 

VanDeList and Leffler finished their weekend as strong as they started. VanDeList had 42 assists during the game bringing her weekend total of assists to 111. Leffler has a weekend high of 17 kills against ENMU. 

After being on the road for two weeks, the Mavericks will return home to Brownson Arena to take on Metro State University- Denver to start conference play.

The game will be on Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo.
