The scoring started early in the contest between Colorado Mesa University and Humboldt State, with the Jacks striking first. Sabine Postma scored at the 6:29 mark in the first half.

Later in the first half, the Mavericks were able to strike back thanks to senior Amanda Wenzel. Off a pass from Mackenzie King, Wenzel was able to put it past the goalie for her first goal of the season to tie the game up at 1-1. That would be the score entering half time, despite the Jacks out shooting the Mavericks 12-6 over the first 45 minutes.

The second half was played evenly on both sides before a score at the 75-minute mark gave the Jacks the 2-1 lead. CMU would be unable to score over the final 15 minutes, giving Humboldt State their first victory of the season, and the Mavericks their first loss.

The Jacks outshot the Mavericks 15-9 over the course of the game, including 9-5 in shots on goal. Freshman Abby Steers played the full 90 minutes in net for the Mavericks and came away with 4 saves on the day.

Wenzel and midfielder Madison Rasimas led the Mavericks with 2 shots on goal apiece in the contest.

Next up for the Mavericks is Sonoma State University on Sunday. SSU enters the game ranked number 22 in the nation. Game time is set for noon mountain time.
