Mav Baseball players give their picks for the World Series

Rejoice! The sun is shining down on the baseball diamond and every fan base has a sense of optimism, the MLB regular season is back. In year one of A.C. (After Cubs) every team starts with a fresh slate. Many fans of the sport are finalizing their fantasy teams and reading their $7 magazines in hopes their World Series predictions are not thrown in the garbage of broken dreams.

Naturally, our very own CMU Baseball team has their opinions of who will be lifting the World Series trophy this upcoming year, and their answers vary all across the world of Major League Baseball.

Chicago Cubs:

“The Chicago Cubs,” infielder Kevan Elcock said. “They got a lot of really good young guys and a lot of good pitching.”

“Go Cubs go,” infielder Connor Shadroo said. “Just cause, I said so.”

Texas Rangers:

“I’m picking the Texas Rangers because they are my favorite team,” infielder Lane Lacrone said. “Their pitching staff is unreal and they have the line up to do it one through nine.”

“Texas Rangers because they haven’t won one and I think this is the year they do it,” outfielder John Ballard said.

Boston Red Sox

“That’s my hometown favorite team,” first baseman Nick Borowski said. “They have a lot of young guys that have been chipping away in AAA for a while. They also picked up a couple of big-priced arms, so I’m excited to watch them.”

Cleveland Indians

“I think that the Cleveland Indians will win the World Series this year,” third baseman J.J. Carr said. “They added a great first baseman in Edwin Encarnacion. They have all their pitching back so I think they’ll make another run and win it this year.”

Los Angeles Dodgers

“I think offensively they’ve been pretty good,” infielder Andrew Contreras said. “Hopefully one they get in the playoffs their pitching comes together and Clayton Kershaw can string something together. I think they’ll get hot at the end.”

“I think the Dodgers are going to win it all because Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher on the planet,” outfielder Tanner Nieslanik said.

“I think without question the Dodgers are going to win the World Series,” Manager Chris Hanks said. “I’m pretty confident in that pick. Our boy Sergio Romo is on the Dodgers, and I think it’s just goofy enough for him to get a fourth ring.”

The team has made their voices heard, so what say you fellow CMU students? Send us your World Series pick by tweeting us at @CriteSports and make your voice heard. No matter your opinion, though, one thing every fan we can agree on is that we’re just happy baseball is back.
