Colorado Mesa University is opening a new 24-hour fitness facility, located on the lower level of Lucero Hall. Equipped with cardio machines, strength equipment, and free weights, this new gym is aiming to help accommodate students’ schedules more easily.

“The facility is just another example of small ways CMU can make a big impact on the health of our students. Whether people like to exercise in the morning, evening or late at night, we know that physical health is critical,” Fitness and Wellness Programs Manager Emily Thom said. “By offering this additional facility, we can continue to optimize campus to meet the demands of students.”

Built because of the growing number of student requests to expand fitness hours, the Lucero 24-Hour Fitness Facility, while not large, is primed for efficient and rewarding workouts. “We’re excited to see how this new option will increase a culture of health on campus,” Thom said.

To accommodate the gym, Lucero Hall’s entrance was moved up a floor. Equipment will be checked and monitored on a regular basis. However, due to the continuous hours, staff won’t be on hand constantly, in which case students are expected to adhere to the standard safety protocols of the dorms.

“CMU seeks to serve our mission by creating an environment that maximizes student learning,” said Thom. “When students exercise and look to improve their physical health, we believe their mental health and academics improve too.”
