President of the Theta Xi Fraternity John Lucero and Risk Manager Nolte Mehnert were on hand at the club fair this past week to create interest among the male student population to join the ranks of brotherhood with their fraternity.

Theta Xi started their mission to become a fraternity on campus three years ago by registering as an interest group. Since then, the fraternity has been upgraded to colony status and is working to gain their chapter status in the next year.

The biggest thing on Theta Xi’s agenda is their upcoming open invitation rush week Sept. 4-8. During rush week, there will be four events to get to know the brothers and formulate invitations to their fall 2017 pledge class.

The first event is a meet and greet with the brothers of the fraternity in the UC Ballroom Monday from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday is a 3v3 basketball game at the Maverick Pavillion from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, the fraternity will be holding a bonfire with the place and time TBA. Finally, on Thursday, they will be holding a wing challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings at 5 p.m.

The wing challenge is reportedly going to be the infamous Blazin’ Wing challenge that Buffalo Wild Wings is famous for.

There are many reasons why male students join a fraternity. Some do it to gain business experience, while others do it for the connections it can bring post-graduation, and the lifelong friendships it can create.

Since Theta Xi is a relatively new fraternity, it has a lot of room to grow.

“My goal is to grow Greek life as a whole and expand our brotherhood,” Mehnert said.

If you are looking to join Theta Xi, don’t miss their rush week and weekly meetings on the second level of the UC every Monday at 5 pm. You can also follow them on Instagram, @cmu_thetaxi, to keep up with their events and meetings.
