The Business Closet at Colorado Mesa University (CMU) is a place where students can borrow business casual and formal clothes for job interviews and other events.
The official opening happened on Sept. 1st on the first floor of the Davis School of Business, otherwise known as Dominguez Hall. Sponsors of this project included Daley, Wendland & Co., P.C., Cigna National Health Insurance and Timberline Bank.
Kayla Stack is a junior pre-nursing student and the Vice Chair of the Business Closet. Stack got involved because of her work as a peer mentor in Career Services, which is the department behind the idea.
Stack is mostly involved with the business side of the project, which includes mannequins and clothing racks, as well as approving other’s work on those items. Stack stated that her interest was sparked because of the mission behind the Business Closet, as she wants to help others who may not be as fortunate.
The closet is open to all students on campus. Those who need it can contact Career Services to borrow pieces of clothing. When done with the items, wearers will need to bring the clothes back on time and in good shape.
The Business Closet is working on expanding even further after this initial opening.
“I hope to have a business closet in each department throughout the school. [We are hoping to] have one in science and math, social sciences, all of that. I think that every dress looks different for every profession and we want to cater to everybody, not just business. Not everybody needs a business professional look for their career. We hope to expand with every department and cater to every student’s needs,” Stack said.
