Colorado Mesa University (CMU) athletics announced Monday that Tremaine Jackson has resigned from his position as the football team’s head coach.
The announcement comes as Jackson accepted a position as the head coach of Valdosta State University. Valdosta State was the National Championship Runner-Up to Ferris State this past season.
In the 2021 season, Jackson’s only full season as the Mavericks head coach, he led the team to an 8-2 record. The team’s biggest win of the season came against the No.3 Colorado School of Mines with a score of 26-21. Jackson was 10-3 combined in his two seasons at CMU.
The search for the Mavericks new head coach will begin immediately. CMU President John Marshall gave a statement to the Mavericks Athletic Department about the football program’s transition to their 20 head coach in program history.
“It’s with excitement and optimism that we launch a national search for the next head football coach of Colorado Mesa University. We will recruit a dynamic leader of good character befitting the great tradition and outstanding young men of our football program,” Marshall said.
