Women’s soccer was back on the road this weekend in what was a weekend that could help boost the team’s confidence throughout the rest of the season. The Mavericks were able to hold on to a 1-1 tie against Regis University and were found victorious as they traveled to South Dakota to take on Black Hills State.

They started the weekend off at Regis University and the game found the Mavericks in their first tie of the season. It took either team 50 minutes to score and the first one to find the goal was the Mavericks. Freshman Kristen Capan scored her first collegiate goal with help from senior Ryanne Parker.

It would take Regis a little while longer to find their first goal, but 37 minutes later, they sure did. Allison Warta found a way to cross the ball to Gia Lemley who got the team their first and only goal of the game.

CMU’s defense was able to hold Regis to only six shots on the goal out of their 21 shots taken in total while the Mavericks were only able to take seven shots total. The Mavericks were able to take the majority of their shots early on to try to take the win.

On Sunday, the Mavericks traveled their farthest distance of the year and saw their first victory in over four games with the 2-0 win against Black Hills State. 1

This one got off to a slow start as either team could not make their way around the other defense. But senior midfielder, Alexis Allard saw a pass from Parker that she was able to get around the Yellow Jacket defense for her second goal of the season. The Mavericks first goal of the day. Sophomore Lexi Newton sealed the victory with her second goal of the season as well.

This game was all the Mavericks with the team being in control from the start. They took 17 total shots with eight of them being on the goal and more than being in the second half of this game. Black Hills State had six saves on the day compared to Gunderson’s one for CMU.
