Pitcher Andrew Morris stepped on the mound in what would become a pitchers dual and led the Mavericks to a 3-1 win over Northwest Nazarene University (NNU).

Morris had another dominant start as Colorado Mesa University came away with the win on the first game of a four game series against NNU. The sophomore right handed pitcher saw his longest start of the season going six and two thirds innings. He allowed only three hits while racking up nine punch-outs over 114 pitches.

The start given by Morris forced CMU to go to their bullpen only twice. Anthony Durbano and Garrett Tisdall finished the game for the Mavericks combining for three strikeouts and one hit. Giving the Mavericks bullpen some room to work with for the rest of the weekend.

RMAC Player of the Week and junior catcher Spencer Bramwell, along with sophomore designated hitter Haydn McGeary got the Maverick bats going. McGeary started the game off in the first inning hitting a solo shot over the right center field wall to make it 1-0. In the eighth, he would double to knock in the Mavericks third run by scoring Tyler Parker.

Bramwell knocked his seventh home run in the fourth. He currently is tied for first with most home runs among all NCAA Division II batters. The two sluggers combine for ten home runs already through the first two complete weeks of the 2020 season.

After a questionable balk call that allowed runners to move into scoring position. Back to back walks scored NNU’s only run of the day.

The Mavericks continue their four game home series with a doubleheader on Friday.
