Hayden McGeary came through again to seal CMU's sixth-straight win.

A late inning dinger from Haydn McGeary allowed the Colorado Mesa University baseball team to get the sweep against the Regis University Rangers on Sunday.

It’s huge to start conference with a sweep. Teams come out hot the first weekend and it’s important to send a message to the rest of the league.” Junior Spencer Bramwell said.

Count on the sophomore slugger (who also sometimes catches balls behind the plate) to get the job done. McGeary stepped up once again and hit a no-doubt three-run home run over the center field wall in the bottom of the sixth inning to help elevate CMU to the 3-2 win.

CMU kind of showed all their cards pitching-wise in the last game of the four-game set against the Rangers.

Junior lefty Ryan Day made his first appearance as a Maverick andpitched a consistent two innings, striking out two of the eight batters he faced over 24 pitches.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Gage Edwards got the first call from the bullpen as he came in for Day in the third inning. Edward found himself in some jams but got through the three innings he pitched with only one earned run.

Three freshman pitchers also got time on the mound. Kannon Handy got his second win as the left-hander from Herriman, UT struck out two of the three batter he faced in the sixth.

Jacob Rhoades picked up an inning of work in the seventh and then Sophomore Josh Danyliw, who has started that past couple of weekends for the Mavericks, saw an inning of relief. Another freshman in Cade Nicol got the save and closed the game for CMU.

The Mavericks next series will be on the road against a 12-6 Colorado School Mines program who has always been a good opponent.

“The momentum will help. However we have to go to Mines and respect their team and build off this weekend,” Bramwell said. “It will be nice to get on the road and mix things up a bit after a long home stand. Everyone’s excited to go and send a message.”

The series against Colorado School of Mines will start Friday at 3 p.m.
