Student Life is the heartbeat of Colorado Mesa University. It encompasses Greek Life, Programming Activities Counsel (PAC), the Outdoor Program, Cultural Diversity Board and all clubs and organizations. Those in the Student Life offices work with students to enhance the Maverick experience. They encourage campus involvement, participation and improve CMU’s positive culture.

Assistant Director of Student Life, Gail Howe, has been helping students and campus life for CMU since 2013. She began her time at CMU in the foundation. She started in the Alumni Association office and worked closely with the Alumni Director on events. Howe has been in Student Life for over three years: developing and expanding Greek Life, assisting PAC with campus events among countless tasks in supporting students and campus clubs and organizations.

After a long run brightening the lives of Mavericks, faculty, alumni and more, Howe bids CMU adieu. She has chosen to go part-time as an Administrative Assistant for the City of Grand Junction Drainage Authority. In her extra free time, she plans to go boating, skiing, visiting her children on the Front Range and traveling.

As of now, CMU has not hired a replacement for Howe, but there is expected to be a new Assistant Director of Student Life come the Fall of 2019 semester. “The timing is good- they’ll have the summer to fill that, get that person on board and take care of all the business,” said Howe.

Before beginning her new chapter, she says: “I’m going to miss the Campus, the students, the energy- I’ll absolutely be back to visit. I’m going to miss the students most. Definitely- it has been so much fun. And you, the students, have taught me a lot. It’s just time, with everything going on, to slow down a little bit. Thank you so much, it has been awesome.”
