Former CMU student pleads guilty to class 4 felony

Former Colorado Mesa University student, Aaron Apatang, pleaded guilty on Monday, Feb. 10 to enticement of a child at the Mesa County Justice Center after being arrested last April.

Apatang was originally arrested in April 2019 when local, state and federal law enforcement agencies conducted the three-day sting with agents posting advertisements for sex with children.

He was initially charged with three class 4 felonies including: internet luring of a child, internet sexual exploitation of a child and enticement of a child; one class five felony of criminal attempt of sexual assault on a child.

The class four felony plea will result in 90 days in community corrections. Apatang is also sentenced to probation for 10 years to life, and will be required to register as a sex offender.
