Recently Colorado Mesa University sent out a campus-wide email about a new comprehensive calendar. Instead of searching through different organization event lists on OrgSync or scrolling through endless Facebook pages, the campus finally has one calendar with most everything on it.
I for one love the new calendar. Sure, Outdoor Program trips are not mentioned and most of PAC events like the Lil Yachty concert on April 28 are still missing, but this is one step in the right direction.
The calendar includes sports and dates for the semester like add or drop dates. It also includes all the seminars that go on, like the ethics series that happened this week and different club lectures.
It is very easy to navigate and get all the information from what is listed. They have times, dates and place listed once you click on the name of the event or activity that you choose. They also do have different categories.
They have activity, concert/performance, sports and so on. The calendar also has a link to where students can purchase tickets online.
If you hover over anything listed, it will give you a description of that event. It will also say how much that event is, if it does cost.
This is a huge relief. Having one spot where most of the information on activities is stored is great. Students now can actually see what is going on and choose what they want to be involved in. Before, it was up to the Stall Street Journal and posters on bulletin boards to tell students what is going on.
Hopefully with this new calendar students are more aware of things happening on campus and will go and participate. Students can also add events to their own personal calendars on the phones or computers.
It is an easy step by clicking “add event” and selecting which calendar you use. This could be very helpful since students may see something they want to attend, but need to know the information the day of, without going to a website.
Overall, this was a change needing to happen for years. Finally, the campus has come together to provide a calendar that students will actually want to check.
