Parking has been an issue here on campus for some time. As more and more students are attending school here, the number of parking spaces available are dwindling. And now students are going to have even less parking available.
As of Nov. 1, two student parking lots were closed. These lots are CP10 and M4, both located on South Kennedy. Students can use alternative lots that are available, CP15 and CP7. CP7 is across the street from CP10 on Elm Avenue. CP15 is on Bunting Avenue. Although the alternative lots are in close proximity to the ones that are closed, it is going to cause some students a bit of stress when trying to find a place to park. These alternative lots have been found to be underutilized by the parking and facilities departments. If students use these alternative lots, there should not be much of an issue with the other lots.
“Campus building projects that benefit students sometimes result in changes that can take time to get used to,” said David Ludlam, director of public relations.
Ludlam continues to say, “CMU’s new teaching hotel is a transformative and tremendous new opportunity for learning. The building also alters the physical footprint and focal points on campus, by design. While this change is exciting, some students who are used to parking in those lots may want information about alternative options. The area that is now fenced will become a permanent recreation field for students, as well as part of the hotel. The M4 lots will remain closed so that the construction team has a safe place to stage materials as they bring the teaching hotel to life. Then, when completed, the team will consult with each other to determine the final best use of the lot that will benefit students the most.”
